Stanford vs. ISB

Does it sound like the most stupid title for a blog post? Or, does it sound like apple vs. orange or even a more stupid comparison?

Perhaps it is not all that stupid in the context I am talking about. A person is waitlisted in Stanford MBA program. For some stupid reason – he is fairly confident of converting the waitlist into admit. But he also has an admit from ISB. What does he do? He has done the comparison of Stanford with ISB for himself hazzar times. The most of the points of comparing the two are the same which everyone knows and are very general. A couple of points are specific to his position. But he is not able to reach a conclusion. Does it sound stupid again? It indeed is to most of the people. Also there is significant risk involved in rejecting ISB and waiting for Stanford. Will Dubya’s visit to ISB make him slightly more inclined to ISB?

Is the choice really difficult or is there no choice at all? Is the person stupid to do a stupid comparison with a lot of probability involved? Is the word “stupid” being used too many times? Has the whole post become stupid? Am I stupid? Am I that stupid?

Thanks Sundeep for your post. Did I ever say that the stupid person is me :-)? Looks like the person will take some more time to make the final decision but as of now he is mostly inclined to ISB.

All i would say is that a bird in hand is anyday better than two in the bush---

Hope to see "the person" at ISB. then We can all boast of knowing a Stanford admit

All the best

I underwent a similar conundrum - kellogg vs isb. Decision was pretty clear once I identified the end goal. Severe introspection - so I sympathize.

Hello Kapil,
Stanford sure is a very tempting offer, and I know exactly what you must be going through. Well, ok, not exactly since I don't have a WL from Stanford.
But anyways, if you're a big-game hunter, Stanford is the way to go.

Kiran

Venkat, Arun and Kiran - Thanks a lot for reading my post and leaving your comments. Looks like there are quite a few guys in the similar situation.

"Big game hunter" is an oversimplification. Besides, by definition the "game" is subjective, before you even quantify how "big" it is. No, the playing field isn't the same. The banchmarks aren't either.

What's your end goal? Then you figure out the best means to that end after identifying all the non-negotiable constraints and desirable considerations.

Btw Kapil, ISB it is for me. Leaving New York day after, arrive in Delhi - hang out for a month - and then head to Hyderabad.

Whatever - but your post cannot be stupid - because after 07 years of you writing it - I searched for an exactly same title and google threw this blog.
So what did that person choose - ISB or Stanford ?
